Delete PDF Pages

Common reasons people delete PDF pages:

• Blank scanner artifacts. Sheet-feed scanners often produce blank pages between two-sided documents or at the end of batches.
• Redacting whole sections. Removing internal-only appendices before sending a report externally.
• Trimming attachments. A 200-page contract where only the first 50 pages are relevant to the recipient.
• Cover and back pages. Removing publisher boilerplate from a downloaded PDF.
• Cleaning up scans. Throwing away misfeeds, blurry pages, duplicates.

For all of these, you want a visual picker — not a "type the page numbers" form. Mistakes are too easy when you're scrolling through page numbers in a separate viewer.

1. Open Delete PDF Pages.
2. Drop your PDF — every page renders as a thumbnail in a grid.
3. Click each page you want to delete. Shift-click to select a range. Selected pages are highlighted.
4. Click Save. The output PDF contains the pages you didn't select.

The selection is non-destructive until you save — toggle pages on and off freely until you're sure. The original PDF is never modified; you always get a new file.

This is one of the most confused questions in PDF tools, and they're symmetric:

• Delete takes a PDF and removes the pages you did select. Useful when you want to keep most pages and only drop a few.
• Extract takes a PDF and keeps only the pages you did select. Useful when you want a small subset of a large PDF.

Rule of thumb: if you're keeping more than half, Delete is faster. If you're keeping less than half, Extract is faster.

• Physical page numbering re-paginates automatically. If you delete page 5, page 6 becomes the new page 5 in the output.
• Printed page numbers (in the page content) don't change. If the source had "Page 6 of 100" printed at the bottom, that text is still there after deletion. To re-number, use Number Pages on the trimmed PDF.
• Bookmarks and outlines. Bookmarks that pointed to deleted pages become orphaned; the rest still work.
• Internal hyperlinks. Page-to-page links inside the document update; links to deleted pages break.

• Shift-click for ranges. Click the first page, shift-click the last — every page in between gets selected. Useful for deleting a contiguous appendix.
• Click to toggle. Each click flips a page between selected and unselected. Reversible until save.
• Scan for blank pages first. Blank pages in a thumbnail grid are obvious; they're the easiest cleanup pass.
• Long documents. For PDFs over 200 pages, consider splitting first with Split PDF by chunk, then deleting from each chunk individually — easier to navigate.

• "You can't delete every page" error. A PDF must contain at least one page. Unselect at least one or use Split PDF for "discard everything" workflows.
• Thumbnails are slow to render. PDFs with hundreds of pages take a moment to thumbnail. Wait for the grid to finish loading before selecting.
• I deleted the wrong page. Re-open the original file (we never modify it) and start over.
• Need to delete AND reorder? Use Organize PDF for a combined workflow.

Deleting pages is often the last step before sharing a PDF externally — you're removing the bits you specifically don't want anyone else to see. Uploading the source file to an online tool defeats the purpose: the unredacted version briefly lives on someone else's server. SwissArmyPDF runs deletion entirely in your browser via pdf-lib. • Extract PDF Pages — the inverse operation.
