Rotate PDF

You rarely intend to make a sideways PDF. It usually happens via one of these paths:

• Sheet-feed scanner mis-orientation. A page fed in upside-down or rotated 90°.
• Phone "scan to PDF" apps that misread the page orientation, especially with handwritten content.
• Mixed-orientation source documents — landscape spreadsheets glued into a portrait report.
• Office "save as PDF" with rotated source pages that don't propagate the rotation flag correctly.

Whatever the cause, the fix is fast: change each page's rotation flag (90°, 180°, or 270°) and save.

1. Open Rotate PDF.
2. Drop your PDF onto the page or click to browse.
3. Pick the page(s) you want to rotate, then pick a rotation direction (90° CW, 180°, 270° / 90° CCW).
4. Use Rotate All if every page is wrong in the same way.
5. Click Save and download the corrected PDF.

The whole process is non-destructive — we update the page rotation flag rather than re-rendering the content, so there's zero quality loss.

PDF has a built-in concept of page rotation: every page carries a flag that says "display me at 0°, 90°, 180°, or 270°." Rotating a PDF the right way means updating that flag rather than re-drawing every page in a rotated orientation.

The benefit: no quality loss, no re-encoding, no font substitution, and the operation completes in milliseconds even on huge PDFs. Some rotation tools (especially ones that go through a print → re-scan loop) re-rasterize pages, which loses sharpness on text and can break searchability. SwissArmyPDF doesn't — your pages come out byte-equivalent except for the rotation flag.

• Scanned contract with one page upside down. Select that page, hit 180°, save.
• Whole document is sideways from a scanner mistake. Use Rotate All with 90° in whichever direction makes it upright.
• Spreadsheet appendix is sideways inside a portrait report. Select just those pages and rotate 90° to make them landscape.
• Photographic PDF where some pages are portrait, some landscape. Visit each wrong page and rotate individually.

• Rotate spins the page around its center: 90°, 180°, or 270°. The content stays mirror-correct.
• Flip (horizontal or vertical) mirrors the page, so text reads backwards. Rare; usually only useful for graphics work.
• Reflect/mirror the entire document along the spine — for booklets and print-folding workflows.

This tool handles rotation. For flipping or print-folding, you'd want a dedicated impose-and-bind tool, which is outside SwissArmyPDF's current scope.

• The rotation didn't stick when I opened the file elsewhere. A few very old viewers ignore the rotation flag. If that happens, you can re-render rotated pages permanently — but the cleaner fix is to use a modern viewer (Preview, Acrobat, Chrome).
• I rotated and now the form fields are in the wrong place. Form field positions are absolute. After rotation, run Flatten PDF to bake field positions into the page content, then rotate again if needed.
• Some pages rotated, others didn't. Select-all might have only picked the visible page range. Use the explicit Rotate All button instead.

You rarely think of PDFs needing privacy for "just rotating," but rotation usually happens to documents you're about to send — scanned IDs, signed forms, contracts.
